Absolutely! Let’s dive into it:

So there’s this game, Monster Train 2, right? It’s like a roguelite deckbuilding thing, and honestly, I wasn’t sure what that even meant at first. But apparently, it’s from Big Fan Games and Devolver Digital and Shiny Shoe — which sounds like a mishmash of quirky names, doesn’t it? Anyway, it’s up and running on PS5. I was all over the first game, Monster Train: First Class, on PS, so this sequel had me buzzing. You’re tossed into a world after the original game’s chaos, where heaven and hell somehow join forces. Who’d have thunk it, with new clans and cards and this difficulty setting that changes up the whole vibe of the thing.
Heaven tried to stomp on hell initially, but — surprise! — that plan tanked. Their top dog, Seraph, decided to power up against demons, and — tada! — in come the Titans, wrecking heaven. Now you’ve got angels and demons chumming up to fend off these big bad guys. Riding around on way cooler trains, no less.
If you were in on the first game, you’re basically ready for round two. If not, well, maybe peek at the First Class review for a primer. This new one has five fresh clans, though, each with its own vibe, plus some funky new card styles. Oh! And there are these room cards and equipment cards – they do weird stuff on the train. I’m kind of hooked on how they sneakily mix things up.
And here’s where things get story-heavy — with cutscenes at this hub called the Covenant Outpost. Characters yapping it up while you strategize. You earn these Pyre Hearts that, weirdly enough, impact your train’s stats. I mean, how heart-y is that? You can even spend your coins on cloning cards. Yep, double trouble, right?
When you kick off each run, you’re battling to save your train’s Pyre. Enemies wreck it, game over. Set your champion, lay down unit cards across floors, and fend off attacks. I’m not even gonna pretend like I remember all the unit details — like Ember costs and special abilities.
Anyway, spells are a thing too and juggling Ember between them is a mind game. Found this one spell, Firestarter, does a bit of damage — not much, but still. And equipment? Slap it on friendly units or, curveball, the enemies. Makes for some wild plays.
Enemies invade the train, moving floor to floor. Sounds kinda like my pets when I’m holding treats. Seriously, you’ll want them wiped out asap though, before they reach your Pyre and cause chaos. The Pyre fights back hard, so there’s that comforting smackdown when enemies reach its floor. Strategic spell use is crucial here — don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Winning battles is all about bagging gold and bulking up your card collection. Gotta be strategic though — match the right cards with your deck’s strengths. Like this ‘Upbeat Warbler’ unit that charms with a preemptive attack ability. It’s the small wins, isn’t it?
At each junction, pick your train’s path and gear up at nodes like the Pyreborn Banner or Merchant of Steel. Nodes are like pit stops with quirky surprises — it keeps things interesting. Tudge along and you also get to forge spells or repair the Pyre’s health. And, yes, there are events — random story bombs that keep you on your toes.
Trophies, anyone? Yeah, MT2’s got a smorgasbord from bronze to shiny gold. Challenges range from dealing heavy damage to winning without upgrades. Getting that top-notch Platinum needs some serious hustle.
Monster Train 2? It’s an adventure worth jumping into on PS5. Heaven and hell shenanigans, devilish Titans — you name it. You onboard trains with oddball clans, in this trippy journey through afterlife realms. The grind to unlock Pyre Hearts and clans is there, even moreso with this Endless Mode testing your limits. Reckon you’re up for it? Monster Train is live on PS5 now.
Oh, almost missed this — disclaimer thingy, the review copy was from Big Fan Games. So, yeah, fine print and all.
