Electronic Arts, huh? So, they’re pulling the plug on Anthem’s servers next year. Yep, that’s right. I read it somewhere. Or maybe I dreamt it. Anyway, they’re wrapping up this BioWare tale – not exactly gripping news for those who saw it coming.
So, they said, “careful consideration,” like it needed this dramatic flair. January 12, 2026, is when Anthem fades into the sunset. But, hey, 180+ days to keep shooting those Javelin things. Unless that’s not your jam, in which case, I get it. As of today – or maybe it’s tomorrow – no more premium currency, so what you’ve got is what you’ll use till the servers bid adieu.
In a twist that’s totally expected, EA’s FAQ chatters on about downloads. Sure, you can grab it from digital libraries till the fateful January day. Cash in all those flashy premium bits while you can. Oh, and poof – Anthem vanished from digital shelves and exits the EA Play library on August 15. Mark your calendars, or don’t. Whatever works.
The whole server shutdown news? Honestly, a curveball to some. But it feels more like a bad throw in a baseball game. Anthem and its decline – thanks to EA and BioWare – had been hinted at with that canceled redo project. They were gonna revamp it, apparently. Casey Hudson, the general manager back then, had these grand visions to reinvent everything. But he’s gone now – poof – like a phantom in the gaming dev world.
Then February 2021 rolls around and Christian Dailey drops the ball – saying they’re done with this Anthem NEXT thing. Transparency, closure, yada yada. It’s like an open letter to an old friend you didn’t really stay in touch with, you know?
Anthem, born out of BioWare, a game of online multiplayer action in a world far away, piloting Javelins – which sounds cooler than maybe it was. It lived on PS4s, PCs, and Xbox Ones since January 2019. And now it’s just one of those games that was there, tried to fly high, and well… landed somewhere.
