Oh man, had to share this – Drinkbox Studios, you know, the folks behind Guacamelee! and Nobody Saves the World? Yeah, they’re pulling wild stuff again. They’ve got this trippy Metroidvania RPG, Blighted, heading to consoles, and let me tell you, it’s a mad, psychedelic ride through a western-style nightmare. Seriously, you gotta check this out.
So picture this chaos: you’re battling your way through this insanely colorful, twisted world to piece together your people’s memories. Kinda like if your memories were fruit – stick with me here. See, in the distant past, folks would plant seeds in the skulls of the dead. Creepy? Maybe a bit. But these seeds would grow into trees that bear fruit packed with memories. Totally normal, right? Anyway, this went on until some dude – Sorcisto, ominous much? – decided brains were his new snack of choice.
And this guy? Yeah, he wasn’t just munching, he was on a full-on buffet frenzy. He wiped out your whole village and sucked up so much power and knowledge he corrupted the world with something called the Blight. Fun times.
So now, you’re this lone wanderer, like in one of those epic tales, fighting to bring back your village’s memories before that nasty Blight gets to you. Pretty intense stuff, right? And the Blight’s your, like, frenemy – it’s powerful and dangerous, messing with players big time, and there are secrets—deep secrets—waiting for those who dare to dig around.
Oh, the combat is supposed to be a real dance – think of, like, timing your attacks perfectly, combos that feel just right, and those epic finishers that just scream ‘victory.’ The enemies change, you change, the world changes – it’s a whole thing.
And speaking of things that stick with you, the music! Jim Guthrie, the guy who did tunes for Superbrothers and Below – he’s on this, too. So you know the score’s gonna be hauntingly beautiful.
Anyway, bring a friend along for the ride – there’s drop-in/drop-out co-op, which sounds perfect, right? I mean, two’s better than one when you’re up against a world-altering plague, I guess. The landscapes are vivid, bizarre characters pop up here and there – it’s like diving into some surreal painting where everything’s just a tad off-kilter.
Where was I? Right, just imagine the clickety-clack of desert boots in this crazy environment, and you’re there. So yeah – Blighted. Mark your calendars or whatever. This ride looks like it’ll stick with you, whether or not you’re ready for it.
