Yuji Horii, man, just can’t keep a secret. And honestly, I’m kinda here for it. You ever have that one friend who always spills the beans, and you’re like, “Really? Again?” That’s Horii for you. The dude’s a legend, part of the “Dream Team” behind Chrono Trigger, but keeping things under wraps? Yeah, not his strong suit.
Anyway, there was this comic con thing in Napoli. Horii was there, and boom—he may have let something slip about Chrono Trigger getting a remake for its 30th anniversary. Can you imagine? People in the audience were just soaking it up. And then when the host tried to get him to spill more beans, Horii did this classic cover-your-mouth thing, and the translator was like, “You heard nothing.” Crowd went wild. Like, seriously, that’s some prime entertainment right there.
This isn’t Horii’s first rodeo with leaking stuff, though. Back in July 2015, he was letting out all sorts of info. Like, just casually confirming that Dragon Quest VII and VIII were getting localized for the 3DS. And then, out of the blue, he said Dragon Quest XI would be on the “NX”—which, if you’re not in the loop, was the Switch before it was the Switch. It was supposed to be a PS4 and 3DS thing, but hey, Horii’s gotta Horii.
March 11 rolls around, the big three-oh anniversary for Chrono Trigger in Japan, and Square Enix is all, “Yeah, more celebrations coming,” but they just left it hanging there, all mysterious and vague. Typical, right? Anyway, fingers crossed for that remake.
