Wow, can you believe it? An Italian tennis player just snagged a win at Wimbledon for the first time ever. Now, I’m Italian too, so it’s like, should I also do something historic? Maybe, maybe not. Anyway, let me jump into what I do best – sharing some juicy XR news.
Top news of the week, folks.
So here’s the dish: XPANCEO, a company out of Dubai, hit unicorn status. Yeah, it’s all about smart contact lenses. Got $250 million in the bank now and valued at $1.35 billion. Quite the payday, right? Investors like Opportunity Venture are backing them, even with an expected release in 2026. That feels optimistic. But hey, I love smart contact lenses, really hope they get to market soon. I’ve seen their lab – virtually that is – and tried some of the prototypes. One was pretty neat, kind of like lenses we wear every day. Let’s see if XPANCEO can prove they’re not just blowing smoke.
Oh, and there’s more…
Upload VR’s Summer Showcase 2025, oh what a time. Lots of indie games, nothing earth-shattering, but hey, it’s for the indie crowd. Elsewhere Electric got a release date – July 23rd, people! Reach by Ndreams looks bomb in its trailer. And Virtual Skate? You get to skateboard with your hands. Yeah, seriously. That one hits the streets on August 21st. Plus, How To God starts its Closed Beta on July 21st. Exciting stuff if you ask me.
Okay, shifting gears – Samsung’s “where is it” moment.
So, Samsung Unpacked happened, and no mention of the Project Moohan MR headset. Analysts said we’d at least get a peek. Nada. Zip. Makes you think, right? Maybe they’re tweaking something last minute. Or they just want to mess with us a bit longer. Who knows?
Meta’s big move…
Meta’s splashing $3.5B on Luxottica. Wants those good ol’ glasses partnerships tight and exclusive. Smart move? Probably. Keeps the competitors at bay, one might say.
Ramble about Canon time…
Canon’s doing something with MR headsets. There was this super pricey enterprise headset and now, hinting at a consumer-friendly version. Imagine a Vision Pro alternative but Canon-style. The details are hush-hush for now but color me curious.
More headsets! Yay!
SINGRAY G2, from Japan’s HMS, had a hands-on reveal. Video proof it exists and works, though maybe not quite there against HoloLens 2 or Magic Leap 2 yet. Still, progress is progress.
And guess what, Viture?
They’re launching the Luma Series – glasses with a 152-inch virtual display vibe. Comes with all these cool features like 3D conversion in real-time. Prices starting at $399. Seems like a decent deal.
Time for some juicy leaks…
Renders for Ray-Ban’s Meta 3 glasses surfaced online. Names like Aperol and Bellini – what, no Negroni? People say they’ll launch this year, though that seems like tight timing. But it gets people talking, right?
Okay, I better wrap this up…
Apple might toss out a new Apple Vision Pro. Rumor mill is buzzing strong about it. Probably has a new chip or something. Keep an eye out, I guess?
Random wrap-up thoughts…
CREAL scored $8.9 million for its lightfield display work. Makes things look all 3D and real. RealSense, thought it was gone – surprise! It’s back, spun out of Intel like some kind of nice plot twist. VR LAN parties need a shout-out too. 130 headsets, one warehouse, pure chaos. Kudos to the brave organizer.
Alright, I’m out of breath. Let’s wrap this mini odyssey.
Live long, play more, and maybe grab a coffee while you’re at it. Cheers!
