Okay, so get this — I’m at PAX East, right? And let me tell you, the Magic: The Gathering and Final Fantasy mashup is causing an absolute ruckus. You’d think these folks just hit the lottery with all the shouting and excitement. They had this massive showcase (like two hours long or something) and they cracked open these new card packs. Seriously, they’ve got everything. Chocobos! And the land cards? They’re like little snapshots from famous Final Fantasy spots. Kind of wild, honestly.
A while back, they teased us with some cards from this set. That was in February, if memory serves. But this PAX walkthrough? Man, it’s like they’re giving us a backstage pass. You see the cards and get a feel for how this summer release will actually play out. Exciting stuff if you ask me. I’m already lost in imagining strategies.
Oh, and here’s a thing — Yoshitaka Amano is back on board. Yeah, you know Amano, right? The guy behind some iconic art in the series. Done up this new take on Kefka, among other things. Totally stoked about seeing those!
Magic: The Gathering’s going all-in with these crossovers. Did you know they’ve teamed up with Lord of the Rings, Marvel, even Spongebob? Yeah, Spongebob. Anyway, this Final Fantasy thing is poised to be a big deal. Like, Hasbro’s boss, Chris Cocks, mentioned in April that it’s already breaking records. Best-selling MTG set ever, he says. And the world’s kind of topsy-turvy economically, you know? But hey, Magic players gotta have their cards, right?
And guess what? We’re still waiting! The Magic: The Gathering — Final Fantasy set drops on June 13. But if you’re as impatient as I am, you can pre-order it. Got to get my hands on those packs as soon as I possibly can.
