Who’d have guessed? Assetto Corsa EVO kinda stumbled out of the gate earlier this year with its PC VR mode. Not the smoothest start, right? People hoping for VR magic got more of a “what is happening?” But hey, KUNOS Simulazioni just rolled out update 0.2. And guess what? Some VR tweaks came along for the ride, hoping to smooth things out a bit.
So here’s the scoop: 0.2 isn’t just about fixes. It brought in some shiny new toys — seven cars, to be exact. Ever fancied taking a Maserati GT2 or maybe a Lotus Exige V6 Cup for a spin? You got it. There’s also the Alfa crew — Giulia Sprint GTA and 75 Turbo Evoluzione — plus that sleek Porsche 911 Turbo 3.6, the zippy Mazda MX-5, and the classic Honda NSX-R. Oh, and don’t forget, we’ve got two new tracks, COTA and Donington Park. Got it? Cool.
Right. Anyway, this isn’t just for cruising. The game now lets you mess around in ‘Open Mode’, where you can drive whatever you want. Or dive into ‘Career Mode’ if you like a bit of structure. It’s all there.
Now, VR peeps, this is where it gets juicy. The update is meant to be “step two” in their VR journey. Or something. They’re aiming to make it friendlier for your VR headset. We’re talking about VR TV cameras (which I didn’t even know existed), the mirror thingy defaulting to “dynamic” (whatever that means), and some graphical nips and tucks — better reflections, added DLSS, new grass (because why not), and they slapped away some black horizon glitch. Oh, and no more idle-screensaver nonsense when you’re in VR.
So, here’s the wild part: switching from flatscreen to VR won’t disable DLSS anymore. Less fiddly, you know?
The catch? You need a beast of a PC to really enjoy the game in VR. But seems they’re heading in the right direction. Check out the graphics showdown — Version 0.16 vs 0.2 — courtesy of ‘HYPEVR TV’ (shoutout to them!).
KUNOS is promising six more updates before the big 1.0 release drops in Fall 2025. Seems far, but hey, fingers crossed they keep tightening those bolts. And maybe by then, it’ll feel like the VR experience is worth shelling out $32. Just a thought!
