Hello, Hunters! The much-anticipated year 2025 has arrived, and the excitement for Monster Hunter Wilds is growing. We’re thrilled to bring you the latest developments straight from the newest trailer, along with some news about the second open beta test (OBT2).
Let’s dive into everything the trailer has revealed.
The trailer gives a glimpse of the Iceshard Cliffs, a stunning new setting introduced to the game. This icy terrain is where you’ll face bone-chilling challenges and encounter a host of mythical beasts. Expect the blizzards to be relentless here; they add not just beauty but also danger to your journey.
At the heart of the Iceshard Cliffs is a fascinating character—Rove, a Wudwud creature far from its usual surroundings. Its whimsical nature is something you’ll see firsthand as you explore this frosty frontier.
As for the creatures you’ll cross paths with at Iceshard Cliffs, there’s the formidable Hirabami—a leviathan known for its razor-sharp claws and remarkable ability to float thanks to its unique neck membrane. In the trailer, you might notice an ominous giant creature wreaking havoc on a group of Hirabami. Try not to be caught off guard!
The infamous Nerscylla also makes a dramatic comeback in the series. Known for subduing prey with its deadly horn, it seems to be making Gypceros its latest target. Plus, the dramatic conclusion of the trailer has Gore Magala springing a surprise attack on Fabius and his team. This formidable foe promises to be a thrilling addition!
The narrative deepens as we learn more about Arkveld, the White Wraith. This flagship monster has a story waiting for you to uncover, complete with mysterious motives and unique abilities. Its fish-like appendages are not to be underestimated!
Regarding the upcoming beta trials, Arkveld will be playable in the second open beta test, held during two sessions: February 6th to 9th and February 13th to 16th, all in Pacific Time. You’ll want to mark your calendars and perhaps even preload the game on February 5th, so you’re ready to dive in right away.
Whether you’re reliving some content from last year’s beta—like the Story Trial and Doshagma Hunt—or reveling in new quests like battling the notorious Gypceros, OBT2 is packed with adventures. You’ll even get a crack at facing Arkveld in an advanced and tougher quest.
The beta also introduces a useful Training Area at the base camp, perfect for getting familiar with your weaponry. And in a nod to flexibility, players can now create a Private Lobby for hunting in small groups or enjoy the Online Single Player mode.
For those who missed the first OBT or are eagerly awaiting new challenges, OBT2 offers something for everyone, and it’s accessible to all PS5 users with a PlayStation Network account—no subscription required. And yes, there’s a cool Felyne pendant and a Bonus Item pack waiting for you in the full game, just for participating!
Although the beta is available on PS5 Pro, enhanced features await the game’s official release via a day-one patch. Plus, you’ll be able to transfer your characters from the beta to the full game, with slight tweaks.
As we edge closer to the full release on February 28, we want to extend our gratitude to all our hunters for your enthusiasm and support. Pre-orders are now open, and if you secure your copy through the PlayStation Store, you’ll enjoy early access with a 48-hour pre-load window. Your monster-hunting adventure is just around the corner!
