Well, here’s the thing. Loads of VR shooters wanna be like Counter-Strike, right? It’s like you can’t escape it. But get this, soon enough, you might actually play the real deal on Quest and Pico headsets. Yep, that’s all thanks to Team Beef. These folks are the modding wizards who’ve got history bringing other games like Tomb Raider and Duke Nukem 3D into VR life. It’s like they’re on a mission.
So now, they’re diving into an unofficial port – Counter-Strike 1.6, for Quest and Pico 4. That’s like, the version of the Half-Life mod game everyone lost their minds over when it hit Steam way back in 2000. Seriously classic stuff. But yeah, they’re using this Xash3D FWGS game engine to do it, which kinda works with Valve’s GoldSrc engine. No idea what those initials stand for, but sound legit, doesn’t it?
And here’s another thing – it’s gonna have cross-play. Oh, and they’ve got this plan for easy server creation right inside VR. Picture that, setting up a game from within the game. Wild. They’re also hoping to shove full 6DoF motion controls in there. I mean, imagine ducking and aiming with your hands jolting around. The chaos but like, in the coolest way.
Now for the impatient among us, it’s supposed to hit early access “soon.” Team Beef’s Patreon supporters get first dibs, though, naturally. They even teased a prototype video, but don’t get too excited – no 6DoF yet. Classic tease, right? So, there it is. A bunch of folks out there probably as stoked as I am, just waiting to see if this thing can do justice to the legendary Counter-Strike name. Fingers crossed or whatever!
