Oh man, so okay, picture this. I’m wandering around PAX East 2025, probably overwhelmed, and I stumble upon Meredith Gran’s new game demo. “Perfect Tides: Station to Station” – sounds kind of fancy, right? And it’s in the point-and-click genre, but not like what you’d expect. Imagine leveling up in life just by chatting with people. Seriously, that’s a thing!
Right, so this game. It’s a sequel, but like, you don’t need to play the first one to dive in. You play as Mara, an 18-year-old writer. This girl is just trying to adult in a big city, and it’s like an RPG but with those cool old-school point-and-click vibes. You chat up city folks, collect ideas, and suddenly they’re like Pokémon in your phone – but, you know, ideas. It’s crazy how these topics can change your game. Like what even? Game devs really are something else.
Anyway, there I was, navigating the city. It’s straightforward, but at one point, I got a bit lost – my typical day. The controls? Oh, they’re different. There’s no clunky “Look At” or “Talk To” nonsense. It’s all smooth like butter. You’re deciding stuff all the time, and it affects Mara’s journey. At one point, I had to Sherlock my way to a party without even knowing the host’s name. It’s like reliving teenage awkwardness all over again. Yikes.
The story’s got heart, though. Meredith Gran poured a bunch of herself into this thing, and you can feel it desperately clawing at your emotions. The whole thing plays out over a year and is about 16 hours long – so buckle up. It’s coming out on Nintendo Switch and PC, but who knows exactly when. Keep an eye out, you know?
I mean, it wasn’t the smoothest convention experience, but this game? Yeah, it stuck with me.
