Hey, so… I stumbled across this bit about Ian Proulx, the guy running 1047 Games. Apparently, he, uh, wore this hat — you know the type — “Make FPS Great Again,” and it got him into a whole heap of trouble. It was at this big gaming event, Summer Games Fest, where he pulled off this stunt. Honestly, I kinda see why folks were upset, especially given the timing. Around then, Trump had the National Guard out in LA because of protests. Not the best backdrop, right?
Anyway, Proulx hopped on Twitter laterwith this video to try and explain things. He said it was just a marketing move that got way out of hand. Honestly, half the gaming world was like, “What were you thinking?” especially since, you know, politics and gaming don’t always mix so well.
He must’ve thought it was a clever idea to grab eyeballs as they were leaving beta. Seriously though, who comes up with these things? Oh! And first, he wasn’t even gonna apologize. Imagine that. But, when the backlash hit hard, he decided, “Okay, maybe I should say something.”
He goes, “We really didn’t mean any political stuff with this. Sure, I knew it’d stir up some reactions—duh, right?—but it was more of a playful poke at how we see the gaming world, like, ‘Hey, we can do better!’”
Eventually, he did say sorry—not because of what he did, but because of what it stirred up in the gaming community. It’s kinda sad, though, knowing how divided everyone got over a silly hat. Yeah, he got the point in the end. Sort of.
