Interesting things are happening with user-generated content, especially in popular games like Fortnite and Roblox. Recently, Team Hive, a studio that’s big on creating custom content within Fortnite, hinted at a new game that seemed to be inspired by Roblox’s well-known title, Dress to Impress. But the excitement took a turn when a developer from the Dress to Impress team clarified that this Fortnite game isn’t an official creation. Instead, it was described as a “fan-made” effort.
Zac, who manages development for Dress to Impress, made sure to set the record straight. Posting on X, he mentioned, “We’re not planning to bring Dress to Impress to other platforms. You can only play the original on ROBLOX. Anything similar that you find elsewhere is purely fan-made.”
This clarification came after Team Hive dropped an intriguing teaser on X (which we used to know as Twitter). The post read, “Dress your best to impress… Coming 2025 to [Fortnite],” which led many to believe an official collaboration might be in the works.
Matthew Behan, the co-CEO of Team Hive, reached out to Polygon in an email and shared more about their plans. He emphasized that what they’re working on isn’t just fan art; it’s a game being developed using Unreal Editor for Fortnite. “This isn’t a ‘fan-made’ game,” he explained. “Our upcoming fashion show is going to have a different title. We’ve been working on it since mid-2023, following interest from a major fashion brand. This brand wanted to partner with us to bring some style into Fortnite, which until now has been mostly about shooting games.”
Behan explained that this fashion-centric game, currently nicknamed “Fashion Show” for lack of a better title, would let players use accessories designed to complement Epic Games’ skins and other Fortnite gear they’ve previously snagged.
Regarding the teaser, he assured that the phrase “dress your best to impress” was a deliberate twist from “dress to impress” to avoid any misunderstandings.
Dress to Impress first hit Roblox in 2023 and quickly turned into a sensation, garnering more than 5.5 billion logins so far. Roblox has long been a fertile ground for dress-up games, with titles like Fashion Famous racking up over 2.2 billion plays since 2016, while others like It Girl have built upon the foundation that Dress to Impress has laid.
